Awards Presented to APGO

APGO Honored To Receive Its First Award: The Earth, Wind, Fire and Water Award

In 2003/2004 APGO participated in the "Well Aware Program" sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment. In 62 public meetings across the province, APGO hydrogeologists joined staff from Conservation Authorities, the Ontario Ground Water Association, well drillers and staff from local Health Units to present a program on private water well stewardship.  Sir Sanford Fleming College contributes by training Ontario's water well technicians, as Ontario has raised the bar on ground water source protection and drinking water safety.  On April 9, 2005 Sir Sanford Fleming awarded the prestigious Earth, Wind, Fire and Water award to the APGO for their contribution to the Well Aware program. (Individual hydrogeologists volunteered to talk on the science of ground water at the public meetings.)  This award is presented in recognition of the protection of the quality and use of ground water.  The Aboriginal community believes that four elements sustain our world:  Earth, Wind, Fire and Water, and this is the spirit in which the College makes the award each year. Mary Jane Conboy, P.Geo., Heather Wilson, P.Geo., and Steven Usher, P.Geo., helped set up and run the APGO portion of the Well Aware program.  Mr. Usher accepted the award on behalf of these individuals and the 42 other hydrogeologists who contributed their time.  The Earth, Wind, Fire and Water Award hangs proudly on the wall of the APGO office in Toronto.
