Failure to File CPD Hours

Background

The Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) has a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program in place which fulfills the following functions:

  • Holds out documented evidence of public protection through continuing professional development, demonstrating that APGO members remain current in their profession;
  • Fulfills APGO’s mandate to “develop an ongoing program of professional development;” (By-law No. 7);
  • Assists members with fulfilling their CPD obligations in other jurisdictions;
  • Facilitates mobility between Canadian jurisdictions.

Participation in the CPD program by practising and limited members of the APGO is a condition of membership.

Annual filing of 30 CPD hours by March 31 of the year following the CPD year being reported on is required as part of the program. Note: The deadline to report CPD hours in 2010 has been revised to April 30, 2010.

An Exemption from Filing may be requested by those who have encountered extenuating circumstances during the CPD year.

Notice of Filing in Another Jurisdiction may be provided to the Association. Several jurisdictions with CPD programs comparable to APGO are already noted and listed as acceptable and filing a further report with the APGO would not be required. Recognition of jurisdictions not already listed may be requested.

APGO staff and the APGO CPD Subcommittee are available to answer your questions and are happy to assist you with the filing of a CPD declaration.

Failure to File

Should CPD Hours, an Exemption Request, or Notice of Filing in Another Jurisdiction not be received/entered in the online module by the Association by March 31 (or April 30 for the 2010 reporting year) of the year following the CPD year being report on, the following will occur:

  1. You will be contacted by the Association via email/mail and notified of the unfulfilled condition of membership. You will be provided with the opportunity to remedy the situation by a specified date either by filing the CPD hours, requesting an exemption, or notifying the Association of CPD hours filed in another jurisdiction.
  2. Should the CPD hour declaration condition of membership remain unfulfilled, after June 30 a Notice of Suspension Pending letter will be mailed to you and a date supplied by which the outstanding condition of membership must be met.
  3. If the condition remains outstanding as of the date specified in the Notice of Suspension Pending Letter, the membership will be suspended and a Notice of Suspension will be mailed out.
  4. To have the suspension lifted, the outstanding condition of membership must be remedied and the Reinstatement Fee submitted.
