Geoscientist-in-Training (G.I.T.)

A Geoscientist-in-Training is an applicant with an undergraduate degree in geoscience from a Canadian university who is eligible to enroll in APGO's Geoscientist-in-Training (G.I.T.) Program; Or an international applicant with an acceptable degree or credential from another institution is eligible to enroll in the G.I.T Program, if:

. a Confirmatory Examination Program has been assigned, or
. the assigned examination program has been completed, or
. the applicant does not yet have the relevant 12 months in a Canadian work environment or equivalent.

Note: A person may not remain a G.I.T. for more than 6 years, although in special cases 8 years may be approved.

Registration in the G.I.T Program:

. demonstrates that the applicant is giving serious consideration to becoming registered as a geoscientist in Ontario;
. helps the individual ensure that they are receiving essential relevant experience, as APGO will review their progress with suggestions to remedy apparent deficiencies;
. allows the individual to participate in the APGO programs and insurance plans;
. entitles the individual to receive APGO publications and other information;
. enables the individual to attend APGO meetings and functions.

New: The first year's dues for a G.I.T. membership are waived if the G.I.T. applicant applies within six (6) months of being awarded a university (or equivalent institution) Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent credential). Supporting documentation (transcripts, confirmatory exam results, etc.) must be provided to the Association within three (3) months of the date of completion.
