A Geoscientist-in-Training is an
applicant with an undergraduate degree in geoscience from a
Canadian university who is eligible to enroll in APGO's
Geoscientist-in-Training (G.I.T.) Program; Or
an international applicant with an acceptable degree
or credential from another institution is eligible to enroll
in the G.I.T Program, if:
. a Confirmatory Examination
Program has been assigned, or . the assigned examination
program has been completed, or . the applicant does not
yet have the relevant 12 months in a Canadian work environment
or equivalent.
Note: A person may not
remain a G.I.T. for more than 6 years, although in special
cases 8 years may be approved.
Registration in the
G.I.T Program:
. demonstrates that the applicant is
giving serious consideration to becoming registered as a
geoscientist in Ontario; . helps the individual ensure that
they are receiving essential relevant experience, as APGO will
review their progress with suggestions to remedy apparent
deficiencies; . allows the individual to participate in the
APGO programs and insurance plans; . entitles the
individual to receive APGO publications and other
information; . enables the individual to attend APGO
meetings and functions.
New: The first year's dues for a G.I.T. membership are waived if the G.I.T. applicant applies within six (6) months of being awarded a university (or equivalent institution) Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent credential). Supporting documentation (transcripts, confirmatory exam results, etc.) must be provided to the Association within three (3) months of the date of completion.
