APGO Gains Some International Exposure In Kuwait By Norm S.W. Williams  Last spring, Kuwait University’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences contacted APGO in its search to find a reputable North American geoscience organization to evaluate its undergraduate program for accreditation purposes. Upon learning that that activity is not a part of APGO’s mandate, the department expressed an interest in learning about the Association’s role and in forging a mutually beneficial professional relationship between the two organizations. To this end, Kuwait University extended an invitation for APGO to visit the department at the same time as a group of professors from the University of Ottawa’s Department of Earth Sciences.

Lifewater Canada: Using Geoscience Expertise To Help African People, By Jim Gehrels, P.Geo. During the upcoming holiday season it is timely to reflect on those less fortunate than us. In this article, Field Notes draws your attention and provides a short introduction to a charitable organization, Lifewater Canada (Lifewater) whose mission is to provide safe drinking water to many in Africa. One of our own APGO members, Jim Gehrels, P. Geo., is the president of this non-profit organization. We hope to learn more of his experiences and the recent accomplishments of this group of volunteers in the next issue of Field Notes once he returns from Africa this month.
