President's Perspective
By Steve Usher, P.Geo.
APGO President
As I begin my term as president I would like to introduce myself and inform you of the tasks that I would like to focus on this year on behalf of APGO members. I have been involved with the APGO since its inception in 2000, serving on a variety of committees and last year, as vice president. My background is as a groundwater scientist and I am currently Senior Hydrogeologist at Gartner Lee Limited.
I would like to address several key issues in the coming months with the direction of Council and the assistance of APGO office staff. These issues include mobility of our members, outreach to prospective members, building a stronger bridge to our universities as well as effective and just enforcement and compliance. I expect to report on the progress that we will be making on these initiatives in future issues of Field Notes.
I look forward to the support of the new Council, and welcome our three new Lieutenant Governor Appointees, as we continue the work already set in motion by past presidents and councils. I also look forward to working with the APGO Vice President Dr. Greg Finn, P.Geo., from Brock University, our Executive Director and Registrar, Andrea Waldie, and the staff of the APGO.
I would like to thank and congratulate APGO's past president, Maureen Jensen, P.Geo., for all of her efforts in making sure that APGO was a leader on many issues and that it made its mark at both the national and provincial/territorial levels.
APGO is an active and vital Association. I am confident that with the guidance of the Council we will continue on the course established for our Association. I encourage you to become involved with your association either through volunteer work or by becoming involved in the issues that interest you most. Should you have comments, concerns or congratulations for any issue or person, please feel free to contribute to Field Notes. You can always contact me directly at - susher@gartnerlee.com.
