APGO Headliner - Dr. Fuzail Siddiqui, P.Geo. was presented the Rouge River Keepers Award

The Dr. Fuzail Siddiqui, P.Geo. was presented the Rouge River Keepers Award by Ms. Sue Sherban, the mayor of Whitchurch-Stouffville, at a ceremony held at Rouge River Community Centre in Markham on October 7, 2004. The Rouge Park Alliance, the management body of Rouge Park, awarded Mr. Siddiqui this honor for his efforts, as the Coordinator of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP), in promoting and communicating environmentally responsible practices at Station Creek Golf Club. This club is situated in the environmentally sensitive Oak Ridges Moraine in the upper reaches of the Rouge River catchment area. The Rouge Park Alliance, each year, recognizes individuals and groups in the community who have made an outstanding contribution to the Rouge Park vision, goal and objectives. Mr. Lewis Yeager, General Manager of Rouge Park wrote on August 24, 2004, "Your work to enhance private lands in the watershed will greatly benefit the health of Rouge Park and the Rouge River system." Those present at this annual ceremony included regional Government personnel, community leaders and members of the GTA environmental community. The event received wide coverage in York Region newspapers of mid-October, 2004. Congratulations Fuzail!

Dr. Siddiqui has also graciously volunteered to chair the APGO Communications Committee. The Communications Committee is responsible for communications between the APGO, its membership and the public. This includes a review of the APGO Annual Report and the production of the newsletter, Field Notes, the web site, APGO convention booths and mail correspondence to APGO members. Fuzail has been a headliner before. In 2001, his exploration proposal for the Red Lake Mine, NW Ontario - the richest grade gold mine in the world - was judged worthy of a semi-finalist award in the global 'Challenge' launched by Goldcorp Inc. of Toronto. Dr. Siddiqui is also the Principal Consultant for Resources Research Canada.
