Professional Geoscientists' Salary Survey

George Wahl, P.Geo. - APGO Councillor

Salary Surveys - some useful links to other association surveys

By tradition, some of the longer standing professional associations in Canada with large engineering and geoscience memberships and resources (such as Alberta’s joint engineering-geoscience association APEGGA, with greater than 42,000 members), routinely undertake annual and quite detailed salary surveys.

The APGO, has contemplated doing such a survey, but it was decided by Council that the Association had more pressing priorities to attend to at this stage in its development. Also, Council has some concerns that as a regulator of a profession on behalf of the public, the APGO should not be seen to be creating any expectations in, or of, the marketplace with respect to fees for those professional services it regulates. If you feel differently, let your Councillor know.

If members are aware of salary surveys that may be of general interest to members, such as sectoral surveys by industry associations or technical societies, you are encouraged to forward details for inclusion in future issues of Field Notes.
