Notice as Received from the GAC Publications Department...

Deadlines are approaching for the August 8-11, 2005, ESP2 meeting at the Calgary Westin Hotel, Alberta, being organized by the Geological Society of America and the Geological Association of Canada. Also supporting this interdisciplinary scientific meeting are the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, and NASA Astrobiology Institute; the European Geosciences Union is an official participant.

This conference is an interdisciplinary, integrative scientific meeting exploring the interactions among Earth's lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biota.

The conference consists of plenary addresses and a variety of symposia, and the schedule and abstracts can already be accessed at the conference website (www.geosociety.org/esp2/). The conference also has an exciting suite of pre- and post-conference Field Trips, and an Education Workshop, in which
you’ll discover successful models for teaching students about systems, integrating interdisciplinary research in your teaching, and building bridges with the K-12 science community. Overall, the conference is designed to bridge the divide between disciplines exploring the Earth system, and has attracted eminent geoscientists from around the world that would not normally attend a conference in Canada.

The deadline for standard registration is June 27, 2005, and the deadline for Field Trip registration is June 30, 2005. To register go to the website (www.geosociety.org/esp2/) and follow the links to register online. Click on “I am a GSA Member”, and then you only have to enter your email address. Then complete your personal information, and then you will access a screen on which you can indicate that you are a GAC member. A complicated process, but it works! See you in Calgary.
