At the annual conference last week, the Ontario Water Works
Association (OWWA) gave the George Warren Fuller Award for 2006 to L.
Tim Lotimer, P.Geo. for his work over the last several years on
behalf of the OWWA and the drinking water industry, particularly with
respect to his efforts in relation to Source Water Protection. The
Ontario Water Works Association is a Section of the American Water
Works Association (AWWA). AWWA is celebrating 125 years and has
approximately 57,000 members and is a very prestigious organization,
particularly in the eyes of the USEPA and MOE. The George Warren
Fuller Award is the highest given out by AWWA, and each Section
normally awards one each year - which are all officially presented at
the AWWA annual convention (this year in Texas). One reason I bring
this to your attention is that this is the first time the award has
been given by OWWA to a geoscientist, and from what I have been
able to learn it may the first, or one of the few ever presented by
any of the other Sections of AWWA to a geoscientist. George Warren
Fuller was an engineer, and the award up to now has essentially
always been awarded to engineers. Another reason is that it shows
what we can do when we support other organizations that traditionally
have not recognized geoscience even though geoscience has an
important role in what they do. Congratulations to Tim for the
recognition of all of his hard work and contributions to clean water
regulation and source protection! |
