1. Caption: APGO invested a significant amount of time in the CCPG's Incidental Practice Task Force and their efforts are described in the following letter from Dan Jiricka. The letter highlights the difficulties Canadian geoscientists have in making any progress with the issue of mobility in their interest. A refusal to enter an open dialogue on incidental practice options for geoscients among the
self-regulating bodies remains a significant barrier.

President's Perspective
An Interview with APGO President Maureen C. Jensen, P.Geo.

Maureen C. Jensen, P.Geo., became APGO's fifth president on June 1, 2006 at the annual meeting of the members held in Toronto. The term of her presidency is one year. Ms. Jensen was the Association's vice president in 2005-06, and was a Councillor-at-Large before that. She contributed to the establishment of APGO. Ms. Jensen was a part of a committed group, led by founding president Bill Pearson, P.Geo., that saw the need to have geoscience regulated in this province. As APGO's president, Ms. Jensen acts as chair of the Council and the Executive Committee. Her past APGO volunteer work includes membership on the Executive Committee (2005-06), Governance Committee (2004-06), Strategic Planning & Budget Committee (2005-06), and Discipline Committee (2005-06). Her strong leadership and management decision-making skills are attributes from which APGO will benefit. Prior to her present position as Vice President, Market Regulation for Market Regulation Services Inc. (RS), an independent Canadian equity markets regulator, she held positions of Director, Mining Services and Director, Strategic Development with the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) from 1998 - 2002. A University of Toronto geology graduate, Ms. Jensen's experience includes more than 20 years in the mining and exploration industry.

On behalf of Field Notes, APGO's Executive Director/Registrar discussed the letter with Mr. Faaren and the he agreed to have his message communicated in a form that Field Notes deems appropriate. Field Notes trusts that the salient points are retained.

Ethics Case No. 5
Resource Sector - Avoiding an Ethical Dilemma by Narrowing the Gap between Client Expectations and Scientific Results

The ethics column this month will again describe a situation to raise awareness of an ethical issue affecting common practice today. The following case pertains to the pressures applied to a geoscientist who renders a negative opinion. It again reflects a situation where the culture of good science and the culture of business can collide rather than work together. This point of contact between these two cultures can and does lead to successful projects and outcomes; however, it also leads to some ethically challenging situations. Resource geoscience, by its very nature, more often than not tends toward more negative results than positive results.
