From Your Editor: Field Notes Changes

Wendy Diaz M.Sc., P.Geo.

It has almost been two years since Field Notes' inaugural issue and I am pleased to report that the feedback we've been receiving from the readership has been positive. I must admit that we were pleasantly surprised to learn that our members and others across the country look forward to receiving this e-newsletter at their desktop. Please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation for your comments. You can be assured that we rely on you to make improvements to Field Notes. In keeping with the well-known adage "the only constant is change," we would like to announce some changes you'll see in this and future issues of Field Notes. Beginning this month we are introducing a new column. "The Regulatory Log" aims to update members and provide information on the Association's regulatory functions and processes, respecting professional practice, as well as new developments in regulations or guidelines that affect specific disciplines of geoscience. Another new column introduced in the current issue to describe, "How Things Work at APGO." Topics to be included will range from descriptions of the role and responsibilities of the President, the Council, the Registrar, the statutory and various key standing committees, as well as APGO's role on the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists, and in the way other self-regulating organizations operate.

Secondly, as of September, Field Notes will be published and distributed every other month. It's important for us to make Field Notes interesting to our members and other readers. We are listening to you and will endeavour to keep you informed about how APGO reconciles its role of serving both the public and its members as well as point out in what ways the volunteers and staff help make APGO such a vibrant geoscience organization.

Don't forget this newsletter is the voice of our membership and as such I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to submit your ideas and comments in the form of Letters to the Editor as well as suggestions for stories you would like to see published. If you are interested in writing an article for publication please contact Norm Williams or myself.
