Paul Puodziunas, P.Geo., Hydrogeologist - Passed Away August 29, 2006

Paul (Peter) Puodziunas, 54, passed away on August 29, 2006 at Toronto Western Hospital. Funeral services were held in the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel in Mississauga on September 2, 2006 with interment at the St. John's Lithuanian Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mr. Puodziunas was born in Toronto on November 13, 1951. He grew up in Etobicoke where his parents Victor and Enna still reside. He was also the loving brother of Leonard and the late Sandy. He graduated from the University or Waterloo with a B.Sc. in Earth Science in 1975 and started his hydrogeology career with the Saskatchewan Research Council soon afterward. A CIDA water resource-mapping project with C.B.A. Engineering Ltd. took him to Tanzania and subsequent employment took him to Europe (Germany and Switzerland) and the far corners of Canada including the Beaufort Sea. His employers included Gartner Lee Ltd., Exploration Logging Ltd., Golder Associates Ltd., Lotowater Ltd., and most recently Terraprobe Ltd in Stoney Creek. For ten years he was self-employed (Applegate Groundwater Consultants).
Mr. Puodziunas was a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, as well as the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario. He was on the steering committee of the Children's Groundwater Festival in Brantford and was a founding member of the Cambridge Groundwater Guardian organization and remained actively involved for more than ten years. Paul Willms, Environmental Planner for the Corporation of the City of Cambridge wrote " As a charter member, Paul was also responsible for taking groundwater education to the general public through displays at festivals, articles and teaching packages for a generation of students." His career spanned over thirty years and Paul was well known in the Ontario hydrogeological community.
