Michael Webb, B.Sc., P.Geo., Geomorphologist - Passed Away December 21, 2006
By Wayne Caston, P.Geo., MCIP
Natural Resource Manager - Canada
After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Mike Webb passed away on December 21, 2006 at the age of twenty-seven. Mike was a graduate (2002) of the Honours Earth Surface Science program at the University of Guelph and was employed as a Geomorphologist at Planning & Engineering Initiatives Ltd. in Kitchener. Mike specialized in fluvial geomorphology, natural channel design, and creek remediation.
Mike was a G.I.T. member of APGO for several years, and achieved his change in designation to full Practicing membership on November 17, 2006 (# 1419). He successfully completed the PPE on the first attempt, despite having already received treatment for cancer. Mike was diagnosed with inoperable malignancies in September of 2006.
Our most sincere sympathies are extended to Mike's family and particularly, to his wife Melissa. Mike and Melissa had been married for just fourteen months.
A memorial fund is being set up in Mike's name. In memory of Mike Webb, an oak tree will be planted at the Henry Sturm Greenway, in Kitchener, along with a small-engraved stone marker. Mike was very much involved in the rehabilitation of this watercourse. A ceremony was held on-site on June 15, 2007. Melissa Webb and Mike's parents were invited to attend.
