PGO MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

PGO congratulates Damien Duff of Centre for the Excellence on Mining Innovation (CEMI) for being the recipient of CIM’s 2016 Julian Boldy Geological Society Service Award. Sponsored by the Geological Society of CIM, the Julian Boldy Geological Society Service Award was initiated in 1986 to commemorate the exceptional contributions made to the Geological Society of CIM by the late Julian Boldy.

Damien Duff Damien Duff, Vice President – Geoscience & Geotechnical | R&D Centre for the Excellence on Mining Innovation (CEMI)
Damien has worked in the mining industry for 35 years and holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in geology from University College Dublin, Ireland and Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, respectively. He has worked progressively in more responsible positions in mine and exploration geology throughout his career and is now employed by Glencore. For the past 8 years, Damien has been seconded from Glencore-Xstrata, first to the Ontario Government as a Senior Advisor and, more recently, to CEMI- the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation, in Sudbury, Ontario. He is currently Vice President, Geoscience and Geotechnical R&D, having formerly held the position of Chief Operating Officer there. Damien is a registered Professional Geoscientist in Ontario and a former President of CIM’s Geological Society. He has received numerous awards, including CIM’s Fellowship and Julian Boldy awards. He has also been the recipient of the Ontario Government’s P.R.A.I.S.E. award. Damien is married to Pearl and they have two grown children, Hilary and Garrett. Congratulations, Damien!
