Year end wishes from the president

As another year draws to an end I want to wish all our members a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Over the year we at APGO have tried to streamline our operations, become more user-friendly and reach out our members in this big province by holding more regional gatherings. I hope you’ve noticed a difference. We have also recently updated our website. It now has a new and updated look and we’ve worked to make it much easier for you to find the things you need, quickly. Please check it out and let us know what you think. And Field Notes aims to provide something of interest to everyone on a weekly basis.

My aim as President this year is to move us toward engaging more with you, our members, and we hope you will in turn engage more with us. We are a stronger organization if we work together and communicate. As part of this process we will start publishing our Council meeting minutes on our website early next year.

The past year has not been a good one for many of our profession involved in the mineral sector. A slumping world economy, lower commodity prices and a lack of interest in financing mineral exploration have resulted in a severe and protracted downturn.

Many of us have weathered several of these dips. They are a feature of the cyclic resource sector. They always end – eventually – and good times return again. And we geoscientists are a very resilient and optimistic bunch.

I wish you all a Happy New Year and a busy and prosperous 2015.

David S. Hunt, P. Geo. President.
