NW Representative on APGO Council

A vacancy has arisen on Council and the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario (APGO) is seeking a councilor to represent the Northwestern Ontario region.

The successful candidate will be appointed by Council to serve until the end of the current term in June 2015.

Candidates will be Ontario Professional Geoscientists, residing in Northwestern Ontario, with a keen interest in serving the geoscience profession by participating in Council matters and advancing the mission and vision of APGO. Interested parties are expected to commit to participate in the remaining five Council meetings in Toronto to be held before June 2015, be involved in committee work, and be an ambassador for APGO in Northwestern Ontario. All travel expenses will be reimbursed by the APGO. Council members are encouraged to attend meetings in person but are permitted to participate by telephone if necessary. Meetings are generally from 9 am to 3 pm and a package of information is sent a week in advance of the meeting. Upcoming Council meetings are November 13, January 8, March 5, May 14 and June 11.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the APGO, to guide the organization along with your Council colleagues, to contribute in a meaningful way to the profession, and to learn more about board governance. New Council members receive orientation training and guidance regarding their responsibilities. As a self-regulation profession, the APGO depends on its members to participate in the regulatory process by serving on Council. Councils are more effective when they renew themselves through the turnover of their members. As such APGO members are strongly encouraged to stand up and participate in the governing process of their regulatory and professional association.

Those interested are requested to contact David S. Hunt, P. Geo., APGO President or Gord White, CEO by email, with a brief statement in writing indicating their interest, along with a copy of their resume. It is preferred that candidates make their interest known by November 14, 2014.

Additional questions can be addressed to David Hunt or Gord White at the following email addresses: dhunt@apgo.net or gwhite@apgo.net.
