APGO Networking Event in Peterborough - February 2, 2016

Topic: The Port Hope and Port Granby projects - Historic Low Level Radioactive Waste Cleanup and Canada's contribution to the Nuclear Age

The APGO is proud to welcome the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) and the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) to our networking event in Peterborough, Ontario. Sandy Holmes (CNL) and Glenn Case (PHAI) will be talking about the Port Hope and Port Granby projects to clean up historic low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) and Canada's contribution to the nuclear age.

Glenn Case is Senior Technical Advisor with the PHAI Management Office, and has been involved in the Port Hope low-level radioactive waste issue since 1976. He began his involvement as the on-site project engineer for the Port Hope Radon Reduction and Radioactive Contamination Clean-up project during the period of 1976 to 1981. From 1982 to 2000 he was involved as a technical specialist in the various conceptual design and facility siting programs. In 2001 he joined the PHAI/CNL to assist in the detailed design, regulatory review, licensing and construction of two long-term waste management facilities, one in Port Hope and one in Port Granby, which is the subject of the presentation.

Sandy Holmes has been Community Relations Coordinator for the PHAI Management Office since 2001. A long-time resident of Port Hope, Sandy has been involved in the efforts to find a long-term solution for the historic low-level radioactive waste in her community since the 1980s.
